A Method and a Community

Making our emotional messengers wrong for presenting discomfort is like making a reporter wrong for reporting bad news. It’s their job. That is why you have emotions and why media outlets have reporters — so we know what is going on.

Your emotions are not broken. They have never been broken. They are the most honest thing about you — reporting on the life you are actually living. Faithful messengers. Every one of them. Just trying to take you home.

Diagnosing that faithfulness as “pathological” or a “disorder” is the same foolishness wearing a lab coat.

If the message is painful, that’s not a malfunction. That’s intelligence. Don’t shoot the messenger. Don’t silence it. Don’t medicate it into politeness. Ask what it knows.

Then — if you do not want to suffer — work on your life. Leave the messenger alone. It is not the cause. It is the effect.

You will predictably feel better the minute you do better.

The Thrive Cycle

“Far too many people are not thriving. Far too many of us are bringing too much of what does not work and not enough of what does work to our relational and emotional lives and we, and the loved ones on the ride with us, are experiencing distress as a result. The various faces of this distress are addiction, relational disfunction, depression, loneliness, business, academic, athletic and marital failure, physical illness, experienced scarcity, toxic anger, burnout, unrealized potential, etc.

By coming together regularly and not just talking about but practicing relational life and embracing our emotional selves, we learn what actually works and what does not work. As we bring more of what works and less of what does not work to our lives and those around us, we begin to feel better. As we begin to feel better we are encouraged to bring even more of what works and less of what does not work resulting in a beautiful cycle— the Thrive Cycle.

Emotional Wind’s sole purpose is to bring together people who want to thrive with the skilled practitioners who can facilitate this and to do this as efficiently as possible. Please join us.
